All products manufactured by Backyard Adventures, have no potentially toxic pressure treated lumber. Naturally decay and insect resistant Select Redwood is used.
For exterior use, Redwood stays flat and straight with minimum warping, cupping or checking. Treating wood with chemicals increases it's decay resistance, but it doesn't improve other characteristics of the species. After harvesting, a redwood tree is reborn at the stump. It grows rapidly, nourished by the existing root system. Therefore, it never really dies. Through mandatory and voluntary reseeding programs, the Redwood forests are producing an exceeding supply. There are more Redwoods today than at the turn of the century. In fact, about 90% of the virgin forest that existed more than 200 years ago is still growing Redwood trees. Look for details and ask questions. Is the wood sanded smooth with round edges? Are the holes countersunk? Is the wood sealed? Do bolts stick out? Are the swing chains only partially coated? Are trapeze bars and ladder rungs wooden (which will splinter) or powder coated steel? Are ladders vertical or inclined? Inclined ladders are safer. Are the steps round or flat? Flat steps provide safer footing. Is the wood pressure treated with potentially toxic chemicals? We set the standard for quality and attention to detail. |
