How do your playsets compare to the competition?
Backyard Adventures is a family company with family in mind. We work with you and your family to help design a playset that is right for you. Just as no two families are the same, no two playsets are the same. Our playsets are built for fun for the whole family – even Mom and Dad. For your child, we focused on safety - Backyard Adventures’ compression clamps strengthen the set, prevent wood splitting, and allow more weight on the system, so you can play along with your children. Gusset supports stabilize the main fort structure. Powder-coated quarter-inch chains create a safe, easy grip. We’ve placed helpful handles and stability points throughout the play set, so there’s always a safe way to navigate up and down, no matter your child’s age.
For your backyard, we built in maximum flexibility. Each Backyard Adventure play set is designed and built in a modular fashion; so you can add or subtract accessories, swing arms, forts, decks, slides, lofts and playhouses. And for you, mom and dad, we took great care to craft long-term durability. California Redwood and Cedar are naturally insect and fire resistant, so your investment lasts years longer than systems built with cheaper lumber. Steel swing supports reduce the chance for board failure at key structural points of your play set.
Because Backyard Adventures is leading the industry with new accessory and component innovations every year, your child will never lose interest in their play set. As they grow, your play set grows. As their interests change, so too can their Backyard Adventure. Best of all, we stand by your unique play set as if it was our own. Our lifetime warranty offers the peace of mind that a Service Response Team is just a phone call away. Backyard Adventures is much more than a play set -- it’s an experience for the whole family, from the minute you walk in.
Why is wood the best choice of material for playset construction?
Wood playsets, such as Backyard Adventures, offer the natural beauty of Redwood and Cedar, along with the stability of steel, to ensure years of fun for the whole family. Because the sets are wood, there are endless possibilities of options you can add to the playset today and for years to come. Wood sets blend well in the environment unlike plastic and are very aesthetically pleasing. Backyard Adventures playsets are above ground sets and don’t require that the sets be cemented into the ground as many steel sets do (unless you live in a high wind area).
Do the playsets splinter?
Any wood can splinter, but having a high quality wood such as Redwood and Cedar can help to minimize splintering. Each timber has been power sanded at the factory for a smooth finish thus splintering is unusual. In the even of an area that feels like it could be a potential splintering hazard, lightly sand the area until it is smooth.
Is the wood pressure treated?
Backyard Adventures timbers are NEVER pressure treated. Pressure treating is a process by which a preservative is applied through pressure treatment into the timber. The preservatives used to pressure-treat lumber are classified as pesticides that provide long-term resistance to organisms that cause deterioration. Many of the timber treatments have proven to be extremely hazardous both to individuals and the enviornment. Redwood and Cedar are naturally resistant to rot and decay so there is no need to add potentially toxic chemicals to them.

What kind of ground cover is best to have under a playset?
Ideally having a boxed area with timbers or railroad ties is ideal because it gets your set off of the grass and provides a safe designated area for play. Designated areas without grass eliminate that part of your yard from watering expenses and prevent water systems from discoloring the structure. Over a period of years, these areas pay for themselves since there is no maintenance cost associated with lawn care and watering needs. The perimeter of your play area should have at least 3-6’ of space around each side of the playset to allow for running, swinging and jumping.
Once your designated areas is built, you’ll need to select a ground cover. Some options are rubber playground cover, sand, pea gravel, or wood chips. Rubber Playground Cover (RPC) is our most recommended ground cover. RPC is a maintenance free, 100% rubber ground cover that will never need replacing or replenishing since it does not blow away or float away. At 4” deep it passes the 6’ safety drop test. Available in solid or mixed colors, RPC will give your play area an affordable and attractive look as well as a safe place for you children to play. Please ask our sales staff for more information regarding our exclusive RPC.
Can I put my set on grass?
Your set can be assembled on grass if you choose. Just keep in mind that it may be challenging to mow around the set and eventually the constant play on the grass will begin to take its toll. Grass can become very hard like cement as it compacts and freezes in cold weather making for a hard landing if anyone should fall. An alternative to grass could be a designated area that uses a ground cover. See the following question for suggestions
Do the sets need to be concreted to the ground?
Unless you live in a high wind area, concreting is not usually necessary. Rebar stakes and the weight of the playset are more than enough to keep the set in place. In the event you are in a high wind area, our installers are able to concrete your set at your request. They will dig a hole, insert an anchor, and fill it with concrete. The anchors are then bolted to the legs of your playset, so that if you should move the anchors can disconnected and the playset can move with you.
If I move, can my set go with me?
Yes, Backyard Adventures playsets are above ground sets and can go where you go. Our qualified team of installers can disassemble your set and reassemble it at your new house. If you are moving out of state, our installers can disassemble your playset to pack in your moving van. Our sales staff will be happy to assist you in finding a Backyard Adventures dealer in your new neighborhood that can re-assemble your set in your new home.
What kind of warranty do the Backyard Adventure playsets carry?
Backyard Adventures offers a limited lifetime warranty on all wooden and steel components, hardware, and certain slides. Please consult the back of your catalog for specific warranty information.
What kind of maintenance is required for the playset?
When installed by Backyard Adventures, your set is leveled and tightened to suit your placement. Shrinkage of the wood due to loss of moisture in the material causes clamps, bolts, and screws to loosen. This is natural and unavoidable when wood contracts and expands. It is important that you attend to loose hardware. This tightening is most important during the first 3-9 months after set up, because this is when the material will be the most reactive. Following this period of time, the material acclimates to its environment and becomes more stable in retaining its size. Periodic checks should be made from time to time. Sanding and staining of your swing set is recommended every 12-18 months. This will maintain your set’s natural appearance and minimize splintering. Backyard Adventures offers a Preventative Maintenance Program (PMP), which includes sanding, staining, and tightening of all hardware.
